The First Day As A Second Year CMPT Student

Monday 21st September 2020

The day began as usual, me being awkward and confused but I am glad to say that I survived and managed quite well. One thing that I quickly realised was that I had forgotten most people in the school's name, fortunately this wasn't a problem as I didn't talk to anyone and I gradually began to remember names. With this new year comes new changes especially after I basically almost failed the last year, I am not certain whether these changes will do anything but it is worth a try and they are positive changes. Anyway, before that I will introduce some other things, there is no point in introducing myself because you either already know or it's not important anyway.

The class has been split into two groups, the less bothersome group and the others or something like that. I'm just joking, ha! It was funny to me. Anyway, I am in Group 1, this is our schedule -

Monday : 10am - 12:30pm

Tuesday : 10am - 4pm

Wednesday : Sign up workshops

Thursday : Self directed task (it would be useful to make your own schedule for this day)

Friday : Sign up workshops

Pretty interesting. I also need to be thinking about my PDF Personal Development, like what are your plans for the next year. Also, we have now started a new 5-week project which is an individual project, very nice and cool, where we will be researching and investigating a painting. Each painting will be used as the basis for a photograph and film project over 5 weeks. Through your research, you will choose elements from it and create your own artwork based on the painting.

W1 = Research and investigation

W2 = Photography, based on the painting

W3 = Narrative, storyboarding, film

W4 = Editing

W5 = EPK, marketing & promotion

I don't know what EPK is and I forgot to ask.

"EPK, short for electronic press kit, is a pre-packaged set of promotional materials of a person, company, or organization distributed to members of the media for promotional use. They are often distributed to announce a release or for a news conference." I would want to do a news conference but also not.

So for everything, I am going to be assessed on the following and I think it is important to look back on these at various time during projects and make sure I have covered what I need to with them;

Context; Research; Problem-solving; Planning & Production; Practical Skills; Evaluation& Reflection; Presentation.

Anyway, I need to be documenting my findings in future and stop writing irrelevant things. SO, you may be wondering, 'What is research and what is knowledge and epistemology?' Well, these are very hard things to define so it's a good thing that Google exists because I don't have a general dictionary in my house.

Defined by Google:

Research - "the systematic investigation into and study of materials and sources in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions."

Knowledge - "facts, information, and skills acquired through experience or education; the theoretical or practical understanding of a subject."

Epistemology - "the theory of knowledge, especially with regard to its methods, validity, and scope, and the distinction between justified belief and opinion"

This is random but I am thinking of making a short film to do with/involve chickens. Anyway, this is probably this is going to be one of the last blog posts in this sort of informal way. This has to do with the new changes that I am planning on implementing. First of all, I need to try and write down things that may seem obvious because to other people they may not be obvious and it also shows more detail and process which is cool. I want to start again but I think it is okay to write things that might come into my head in a different language, it shows character, or something, and my thought processes and ways of thinking. I should also think about prototyping and making more mind maps and things like that. I want to change this blog to have a more professional tone.

I actually am not really sure what I will be specialising in, you see, I don't like films but I like images. However, photography is weird but adverts are cool though.

If you are reading this and thinking I wrote at different time and that's why it seems random and weird, you would be incorrect. Really, I am writing this all in one go and summarising my notes from today's lesson/lecture. Anyway, another thing to remember is that I will need A4 paper to be using for my work as we can't be leaving our stuff in school anymore.

Since I sort of want an eerie theme for this project, maybe I should choose a painting that has an eerie feel - I like the idea but it isn't everything but I think I should still do it. This year I think I will take a dark turn in regard to my work. Really though, I don't have the brains to select my own painting, I am like a rebelling sheep.

To finish this post off, I will end with saying that I think I will source the materials on Thursday and think of what the materials are on Tuesday. I need to think of possible props, parodying, modernising, changing the narrative, costumes, food, set design, lightning, concept, scenery and stuff like that. I want the set to be either outdoors or in my house, no school.

In my notes for some reason I wrote that I should define 'consternation', I don't know what this word means and I don't know why I wrote to define it. According to Google, "Consternation, feeling of anxiety or dismay, typically at something unexpected." I think it is used like how frustration is used. I wonder why I wrote it down, maybe I should pay attention more. Anyway, that is everything. Hopefully I will be able to implement the new changes starting from my next blog posts.
