Last week we looked at filming techniques, this week we looked at editing techniques.
Cutaways take the audience away from the main action or subject. The colour changes usually from bright to a more muted colour, and there is also sometimes a flash and sound cues to indicate a change of time.
Action will develop a better 'flow' if yo cut on action instead of waiting for pauses.
L Cuts - used to contextualise a conversation or give it deeper meaning
J Cuts - the opposite of the L Cut, we hear the audio before we see the video
Foley
Aluminium - Thunder
Newspaper - Grass
Bamboo - Arrows
Bacon - Rain
Flour - Snow
Contrapuntal (counterpart) - can become a building block in the creation of a story.
I have also already decided how the sound will be. There will be no audio of the dialogue spoken by the two characters (I will edit speech bubbles) and there will be party music and some sort of intense music which I will probably find today after school on the Youtube Audio Library. I need to record the voice over today as well so that I can edit it in tomorrow. I think after those two, I will have everything I need. I need to start thinking about adding visual references into my blog. Maybe add images, take pictures of my stuff, upload Vimble videos and think about Foley (footsteps or silence).
There may be weird noises but that was part of a film I was planning to make.
I didn't have a film that influenced my choice of sound funny for my film, I don't really like to watch films. The film just sort of evolved and developed randomly as time went by. I never really had a clear idea for it, or at the very least it wasn't meant to be like this at the beginning but these things just seemed right and to sui it and random ideas came together at different times to produce this one. If I were to force influences, I would say those random videos for awareness is one.
Maybe the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and the way it turns an originally happy-go-lucky high school show became a creepy, mysterious young adult show.
I would credit Roman theatre for my choice of mask, though I changed the role of the stock character, the masks are still very based up it. The masks are very interesting.
The actual music in itself can be from any teenage film whereas the intense music could be taken from any action/thriller/mystery scene. I went really generic with it because I could. But if I was forced to choose I would say Marcella which is "Marcella Backland left the Metropolitan Police for the sake of her family, only to have her husband leave her. She returns to her job on the murder squad, investigating a case that seems disturbingly familiar to her", making solving the case even tougher still is that she keeps blacking out and waking up with amnesia and seems to become very violent during these blackouts, which I watched the first season of in August. I'd say it is very influential and amazingly shot, the music is very important as it creates immense tension in the various scenes where the audience is on edge as to whether she will have a violent blackout. You get to notice that there is a heartbeat sound that gets increasingly louder before such an event then silence as we are brought to her present where the audience too is left to experience the amnesia with her.
