What am I actually producing for the project?

Thursday 13th May 2021"

It was brought to my attention that I never really talked about what the final outcome for the project would be and what I was doing about it so I am going to be doing that in this blogpost.

So far in this project I have done research on documentaries and how to make them, interviews, migration, various artists and other similar things. I have done various tests of filming, recording, editing, and learning new skills but what have I created with that? So far I have made what I call a 'mock film' which is like the film I had wished to make but not quite. I do not have a lot of time left but I still have hopes to create the film I had imagined creating.

What I had originally planned to do as detailed in my project proposal is as follows, "I want to use film to explore what identity really means and what it can entail. I will use documentary film making techniques because I want to use real stories, experiences, and examples. I want to explore techniques of depicting the narratives through film to tell stories through conversational interviews as opposed to talking head interviews and following the rule of thirds to compose my imagery. I want to encourage the viewer to consider what makes up their own identity and to also understand other people’s stories and have empathy. I plan to use interviews to find out stories, experiences and narrative which will be used to inform and be part of my film."

I believe that my mock film accomplishes most of this except it is not a video as I had wanted my film to be so I want to make a whole new film. I do not have a lot of time to do it but I think that I can do it. As it has been hard to get interviews organised I have asked the interviewees to answer the questions and send that to me. Looking at my storyboard and how I had wanted it to be and how my mock film turned, not having me ask the questions to them will be fine and will probably be better for the whole idea. I had previously thought that it would be a good idea to create the skeleton of my film without the interviews in them and save that to make it easy to edit but I decided against it, now I think it would have been better if I did that.

I never sited this before but something that influenced the way I made my storyboard was an interview from 1967 which was a video of women answering a question about what they looked for in a man. I liked the way it was edited.

As well as making that film, I also want to make a video of the interviewees looking and reacting to a video of some random items. This is something extra that I also want to do but considering the time frame that I have, I may not be able to do it. Still, something that I most definitely plan to do is make promotional material like a poster and a trailer, they shouldn't take long.

Below are images of the physical notes that I have been taking since the project began, the digital notes are on my OneDrive but I thought that I should show the physical ones though they are basically the same as the blogposts I used them to write.
