Thursday 3rd December 2020

Sometimes I still want to try and make my blog more personal and humorous but then I remember what I said at the beginning of the year and I change my mind. Today is the submission date and I am finishing my work. I don't think I have enough time to do everything I have left but it is okay, I am going to print some images and I plan to add them to the "show reel" page which I have yet to get started on. Even though I have not done all the work I wanted to, in my head it is alright because I spent my time preparing for my future instead. I am usually planning for and thinking about my future but in the recent weeks I stopped but now it seems that I am back on track.

MIP Evaluation

Introduction

This stage was very eye-opening because it made me realise that there were more options than film that I could choose. At first, I had thought that the only possible option was film, however I now know that there are many different progressions like animation, photography, concept design, fashion photography and so on. I am really appreciative that I got to try out different progression options. It also allowed me to think about Creative Media Production & Technology progression and not just stage progression.

Progression

There were two different types of progression to think about during this stage. There was the specialism progression-what you want to continue to focus on for the next terms-and future progression-what you wanted to progress on to do after the Creative Media Production & Technology course. The options for specialism were many, however, I decided that it was best for me to choose film although I preferred photography. This is because, with film I have things I want to create and visions that I want to bring to life, however, with photography I just like taking pictures and looking at the outcome with no preparation or motivation but that is not helpful for this course. I want to create music videos and short films amongst other things but there is not a big idea in my head for what I want to create in terms of photography. For the bigger picture I have no great ambition to go to university or to continue on with creative media, my greater passions lie elsewhere. To be specific, I would like to teach, but more specifically I want to teach abroad because of many reasons. This is the path that I have chosen.

Workshops

During this stage, the whole of the work we were supposed to create was meant to be around the topic of 'Altered States'. I thought about the topic often and I tried to think about "altering" things, doing them differently and thinking about making the audience think different as well. It wasn't particularly easy and I don't think that I was able to capture the topic well but I did try my best. With every workshop there was a product that we were meant to leave with, but not only the product but also a different mindset. I really liked that we were challenged to work differently, with creative storyboards, more analogue work and new medias, it was very fun to work outside my usual box and try different things. Out of the workshops, I liked the alternative image making and the inkblots workshops the most. Although my work throughout wasn’t predominantly great, these ones were better than expected and really made me think more creatively.

Conclusion

Although CMPT doesn't directly have anything to do with what I want to do in future as an occupation, I was able to remember that CMPT can be used in conjunction with other things. I am still interested in music and creative media but I believe that I should focus on other things that I am better at for now and then maybe think about creative media in the background.
