‘Among the millions of objects people encounter in a lifetime, few become such reminders of people, places or events’ (Petrelli, 2008)
I think the above quote is what I ended up trying to capture with my video. I think the video that I created as a response to the Memento project was a bit of a look into myself and how I actually think of the current situation. This isn't something that I often think or talk about but the video allowed me to think of that in a way. I think I explored the theme of memento and traces of identity very basically and simply. I think it shows up in a very surface level way and I don't think that's a bad thing. I took the basic idea of having a memento and using that to trace the past of someone, at least that is what I tried to do. The video I created for this was also very simple but I think it really lets you see the base of what it is without anything else to block the meaning or make it confusing.
I think I skipped through a lot of methods because I started my product unconventionally to me. I didn't really respond to contextual research-though I did respond to the wider topic and specific research- I didn't experiment as much and I didn't really work with new techniques. I think that these are things that I should consider for the next project. My visual awareness didn't necessarily improve but my tutor reminded me that it is also important to show visual inspiration and research. I'm not a very visual person. Although I often have ideas that come in pictures, my thinking is done with words and so the "visualisation" of my thoughts processes would mostly be words but with me being forgetful it is hard to write them down after but I still try and most of my words and thoughts are on my blog while some extra and less organised ones are on my OneDrive.
However, I think for this project I did a lot of things that I haven't done before or done enough of in the past and that is great but there is always room for improvements. I did some experimenting with filming angles which proved to be a good thing but I should try to experiment with my filming and filming techniques more in future. Somethings that I also think that I should consider in order to lead to a more personal response to the subject would be having higher ambitions, getting new ways of thinking and building new skills.
To conclude, I don't think this project has allowed me to produce imaginative responses, but as I have considered before, maybe I am just not very imaginative. I went about the project in a way I don't usually do. I had an idea and based my research around it. This allowed me to have more focused research however, I did not do a lot of research in the middle ground and so I wasn't able to develop my idea through that. Perhaps if I had done some more wider research I may have found a better idea to work with, however, I am quite pleased with the idea I went with.
