Today we had another seminar. This seminar was an introduction into the next part of Stage 2, Memento. At first we talked about the evaluation for part 2 of stage 2 because we need to finish that to rap up part 2. We also talked about the other upcoming seminars for degree stuff and online portfolios.
The new project is called Memento and the information about it can be found on myUCA about the rationale and project brief. According to Google, the definition of 'memento' is "an object kept as a reminder of a person or event."
We are still in Stage 2 but this is part 3, the project officially starts today and officially ends on the 11th February, it is a 4 week project. As well as reading the rationale and project brief, we also need to look at the aims and assessment criteria.
As we are now specialising in specific parts of creative media, we only need to focus on our specialism area and look at references, and maybe do some reading. There is a lot on myUCA. The PowerPoint was very useful and helpful to get an idea of what the project was about, how we should go about it and what type of thing we are expected to create by the end.
I think the identity theme is very interesting and it may be something that I want to explore. Since memento is often linked to feelings of nostalgia, I think this could work well together, however I am not fully sure, I will be able to think more about it after research. I should also think about what memento means to me so that the research might lead to a personal response and experiment with process and techniques which would be good practice for the final major project. There will be digital tutorials and digital submissions, so I need to look out for that
We were told to consider how we create our identities in the digital realm but I'm not so sure whether it is something that I do. There are many key words relating to the subject that we can explore and I thought that perception was also interesting so I will probably be researching that too.
