Today we had a meeting set up with degree staff so that we could talk to them about stuff. I think I learnt a lot from that meeting, it was quite interesting. I was able to talk to Anne who is a unit leader for film and digital art which is a degree program. There, they train you with lots of professional skills so you can find jobs. It is an experimental course but, most of the students end up working in TV, being directors, producers, sound artists, having production companies, teaching and so on. A big plus is that it is a small course compared to other film courses as they only take about 30 people so it can e more tailored to individuals and you would definitely feel more noticed and helped. They teach you about documentary, cinematography, post production skills, moving image installation, interactive media, sound, VR, experimental drama and so on. During the first year, they aim to get everyone up to speed so that they are on an equal playing level since there may be people that come from different artistic and non artistic backgrounds. They also teach you how to use Adobe After Effects.

In my opinion, it sounds very fun but I am not interested in pursuing film as a career. Bear in mind that a lot of the words written in this blog post aren't originally mine but are interpretations of things that I was told by Anne. The conversations also brought up the fact that my blog is half satirical, half informational. Anne suggested that I apply for Higher Education and I told her that I have applied for Higher Education, it is just that it is in teaching.

The meeting gave me more of an insight on the readings as well. For example, John Berger's Ways of Seeing says that what we see is constructed and images have an underlying message that we don't see and that is the ideology. We discussed how society has constructed our view of the world and that what we see is through the perspectives of men and has been for a very long time. We have to think about what we are actually seeing, who's point of view we are getting and question the society that we are in. I read recently something that said there are always three perspectives, for example his story, her story and the truth. A lot of information is coded, especially from news places, and we have to find out that they are really saying, we should remember that there is a filter but that doesn't mean the information is useless especially as they are now looking at other perspectives.

It was a very interesting and informative meeting but I fear that I definitely did not seem smart or leave the best impression seeing as I am very bad at talking to people.
