This is an evaluation or more of a look back through the first half of the project, how I think it went and how I will be working in future. It is written as a way to document some of my thoughts during the project thus far.
Over 50% of the final major project has been completed. During this time I have reflected on my work so far and my progress, little of this has been documented, therefore it is good to have a written record of how I have felt about the project so far.
At the beginning of the project, I had set out to complete a film-type video looking into identity as a way to enable others to question their identity and identity as a whole. Since then my goal for the project has not changed, I still wish to achieve this outcome, however I had decided to make the film out of only online interviews but later decided that in-person interviews would be interesting to incorporate. I am happy with the goal that I have set out with but I am doubtful as to whether I will be able to produce the film and even then, if the film will be received the way I had hoped.
In regards to my progress, I am mostly on track but there is a large portion of the project I have failed to complete yet. I am constantly thinking about how I will accomplish this task and why I have yet to do it. It brings great stress and reminded me of a similar incident that happened with the final major project the year before. Similarly to now, I had set out to work with others and get their feedback to use as part of my project. At the time, many things went wrong and I was unable to complete my project. Unlike the first year final project though, most of the problems are being caused by myself though there are problems with the participants. Through both project I realised how hard it is to work with and organise other people, I wish I had learnt from my previous mistake. However, I have no regret with the path I have chosen for my project, just the way I have handled it thus far. On the bright side, I believe that I can catch up with the missing work and can quickly be back on track.
The research I have done for the project has been useful and helpful. The articles I read and the films I watched have helped me get a better idea of how I should make my film, they also gave me confidence in making my work. I have learnt a lot of new things and techniques, for example green screening and ways to interview individuals. I have gotten various feedback on my project from peers and tutors which has really help me carry out my project in a better way. And I have improved my creative media skills in photography, film, and editing. This project has given me a new perspective about creative media and how I work. I have experimented with different ways to document and reference information.
Now that the project is fully underway, I am grateful for the help from my tutors with my project proposal which helped structure the way I have worked and has given me something to constantly look back on to keep my progress in check, the timetable especially. It will also be useful for the rest of project. All I have left to do is get the footage and edit it, I already have a vague idea of how I wish to present the final outcome so there is not much else left to do.
