Day Thirty-Six : ShootOng the Documentary

Friday 29th November 2019

Today I was reminded that we had to document the journey so I started writing down what we did. I used some stuff from my blog because I had forgotten some stuff. We have a lecture at 1pm, I am guessing it will be Propaganda Part 2.


It was about Propaganda, it was really fun. First, we watched a short clip about the brief history of advertising. You can watch the video if you click the link below:


Advertising becomes more sophisticated as technology gets more sophisticated. We also recapped semiotics.

"Many commercials are more concerned to attach a sense of lifestyle and experience to the product being sold than to give details about the product itself."-Ward, 2010, p.156

"We are not just being sold a car, but a lifestyle and even an identity."

This kind of semiotic analysis owes much to Roland Barthes' case studies of adverts in 'Mythologies'.


We talked about corporate propaganda, the branding of public spaces and also about reclaiming the public space.


Finally, we talked about deconstruction and watched some videos that showed deconstruction.
