My Second Poster and Final Evaluation

For this project, we focused on propaganda. We had to choose a topic we were passionate about and make two motion posters and a brochure. Using Adobe Indesign during the first stage really helped me for this project because at the time I had enough time to sufficiently learn how to use it whereas for this project, I didn’t leave as much time to spend making the brochure so it was good that I already had the knowledge I needed. Similar to this, having used Adobe Photoshop before, I had a foundation when creating the poster, however we had a lot of time to use Adobe Photoshop and, especially during the green screen workshop, I learnt a lot more about using the software. During this project I learnt how to use Adobe After Effects which helped me make the motion posters better.

I didn’t work well during the middle of the project because we had to work with ideas that we were passionate about but I am don’t have many things that I am passionate about so it took me a while to think of a topic to focus on. In the end I settled on recycling because I always get angry when people don’t recycle. Along the way, I realised that I didn’t actively care about recycling, I really didn’t feel any passion for it so I struggled with working, I later had the idea to choose the topic of “living”. After deciding to change my topic, I easily came up with the logo and decided I wanted use the colours red, orange, purple and brown because I thought they had good connotations that suited my topic. Light red is associated with joy and love, brown with stability, the gold or orange colour is usually associated with wisdom or wealth and purple is seen to be calming and linked to spirituality.

The workshops really helped me to get the result I have. Although there are many things that I can improve with both of my posters, I think that I have improved and I would not have been able to produce what I did without the typography lectures which enabled me to realise the importance of text, the 3D brochure workshop helped me think about space, the speed poster workshop made me think about how the text and colour should try and complement each other and the Foley art workshop allowed me to think about sound and how it fits with the image and video. I think that if I had started the project with the final concept that I had chosen, I would have had more time to make and improve my posters and brochure. Next time, I will really think deeply about what I really care about and how I can incorporate them into the project. I really like how the first poster turned out because it was quite close to the vision I had for it. I also believe that the audio suits the video well. The music that I used for it was two copyright free songs played together and amazingly enough it sounded okay. I made me realise that it is good to experiment with art. Although I didn’t have enough time to improve more on the posters, I did make an experiment website that I would like to continue. I made it while as I was trying to think of ideas for the second poster, it was to help embody my topic. Through this project I realised that I am not as good at creating videos than at making website things.
