Morning briefing, materials and concepts 9th March

The relationship between materials, processes and themes through techniques, the task is to record a presentation within your seminar groups - present your concept and theme and talk about material processes and techniques that you will use. I like PowerPoint presentations, we have to rate our peers which is interesting. It will be a nice evaluation from peers and different eyes I think. We can use feedback from peers as a way to see how we can explore concept ideas through different materials and processes. Perhaps the subject matter isn't clear enough. It's constructive criticism so I am all for it. I am excited and it is already underway! I was already planning on doing one so this is great to push me to do it

This week:

Experiment and explore project - test, samples, explorations

The PowerPoint:

It might seem a bit rushed because I had less than 2 hours to do it

The feedback:

After having given my presentation, it was peer reviewed by a peer, this is their feedback.

Concept/theme -

Started from the memento project and how we keep items and what they become in the future – how we look back at them. Blend with features of identity, migration, ect

Examples: Rich Brian’s ‘Yellow’ – song about identity and success, people achieving their goals.

Thomas Friedrich Schaefer’s Experimental Space

Material/process -

Currently in research process – have everything timetabled.

Plan to experiment, testing new things. Work on project proposal

Producing a film/ photography

Materials: Camera, premiere pro, greenscreen, interviews

What do you think this work/project is about?

Tami wants to create a set of photos/ film that represents identity. Although she isn’t set on which medium to pursue, I think the idea will work well within both mediums. I especially like the idea she has for the film, where she may interview people to discuss their ideas of identity.

Is there sufficient reasoning behind the choice of project concept?

There is sufficient reasoning as she will expand upon her knowledge that was gathered from the second stage of the course and expand upon it. I think that the idea was portrayed clearly and is something that she is passionate about, as seen with the initial research she has undertaken, so I believe that there is sufficient reasoning.

How does the proposed use of material/process help communicate project concept?

Although she hasn’t finalised which medium she will use, I think the fact that she has everything timetabled will allow her to communicate the project with intention. She has good ideas for both mediums, whether she goes down the photography route or film route.

How would you take this project forward?

I would continue to follow the timetable and begin to research into both mediums and see if anyone has produced a film/ taken photos that links to the proposed concept. After finalising the medium, I would undertake in-depth research about the concept to find out more about the idea. I also would look at other mediums where people have linked the concept of identity as although you may not get inspiration for that medium you want to do, you will have an idea as to how other people have produced work with the concept in mind and could potentially play off their ideas
