This is Tami Adesida’s attempt at a personal statement. She is currently studying at UCA to earn an extended diploma in Creative Media Production & Technology. She is studying this because she aspires to become a creative media designer. Tami is 17 years old and has been known to be very indecisive throughout her life, choosing to study a pre-degree in CMPT was a very spontaneous decision that came from her lack of other interesting options but she finds it very educational and feels that it will be very beneficial for her in the near future. Editing is not yet one of her strengths but she is actively trying to change this. She has always had an interest in music and has, throughout her life, been participating in things related to music and performing. During her time in secondary school she participated in every music concert and ‘House Arts’, when Tami was in year 10 she also participated in the annual school production which was Disco Inferno that year. She has joined various clubs relating to preforming and has been a part of different performance schools. Tami has also been interested in IT and Computer Science and received a GCSE certificate in Information Technology.
Tami has many future aspirations but one of them is to work at a company that inspires her with their work. She would also like to teach, perform and create her own pieces of work but she does not know which of her aspirations would be the best to focus on. For a long time, Tami has not wanted to go to university because of the fees, the time used and also because she does not think she could acclimate well, however she did consider that she would study languages if the negative factors that she was worried about were taken away. This means that Tami is not planning to do an undergraduate degree in anything related to CMPT. In regards to that, she was planning to do an apprenticeship which does not have any of those problems but she thinks that she may want to learn languages and it seems that having an extended diploma in CMPT could help her get into such a course without a language A-level. This type of course has again peaked her interest because she was relooking at teaching English as a foreign language but a lot of the good programs require the person to have a bachelor’s degree in which Tami had had no strong interest. Due to wanting to have this as a back-up plan, Tami started to consider getting a bachelor’s degree but the only the course that she thought she could go through was a language course.
Tami especially wants to work with music in regards to a job relating to creative media because she is very passionate about it. Outside of UCA she has not had many experiences with creative media production but she is planning to create a few short films and also use the skills that she has learnt to help her church with various things.
